Social Studies: Jessica Berry Room 207

Hello! I am the 7th grade Social studies teacher. I'm originally from NH but have made my way down the coast via NY, DE, and now NC. This is my 10th year of teaching. I spent 3 years teaching social studies and language arts in grades 6-8 in Delaware. This is my 7th year teaching at East Wake Academy. I attended Wesley College in Dover, DE focusing on the areas of study of History and English. I went on to complete by Masters in Education at Wilmington University in Dover, DE. I have a daughter named Amelia who keeps me very busy outside of school. Most of my free time is spent chasing her and our little dog around. I love to spend time working out, reading, making slime, listening to music, shopping, and going to the movies when I can find the time.

Hello, I am thrilled to join the 7th grade team this year and work with these wonderful students. I have been teaching for 9 years. I have taught in both middle and elementary school. Most recently I spent several years teaching middle school science and I am thrilled to be back in the math classroom. Doing things outside and active bring me great joy. I am married to my high school sweetheart, Matt DeJong, and am a mom of three boys. Levi is 10 years old in fourth grade at EWA, Asher is 7 years old in 2nd grade at EWA, and I just recently had a baby named Luke who was born in October 2019.

I am excited for the next year to begin for 7th grade ELA!  I have been teaching for 12 years, making this year my lucky number 13!  I completed my bachelors and masters degrees from Kennesaw State University, in Georgia, and my teaching specialist degree from Lincoln Memorial University in Tennessee.  I love to keep myself busy, and having a 4 year old daughter, 4 grown kids, and 1 granddaughter definitely fits!  I am part of the COLE book team for EWA, which is like the public school version of Battle of the books.  Outside of school, I spend time fishing, swimming, kayaking, and when I I tag along with my mom- geocaching (or treasure hunting as my daughter calls it).
